Anyone can put up a website and call themselves a moving company. What separates a real one is everything behind the page: a physical address you can visit, crews who work in the city every day, trucks maintained and ready, and a quote process that survives contact with moving day. That's the standard we run Discount Moving & Storage to, from our base at 2285 St. Laurent Blvd, Unit A10.
We're open Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, for quotes and planning — and our crews are on the road across Ottawa well beyond those hours. Whether you're moving a one-bedroom in Sandy Hill or a family home in Manotick, you're hiring a company that answers its own phone at (613) 601-6683.
What a full-service moving company actually does
A moving company should be able to take the whole move off your plate. For us that means planning the job, supplying the truck and crew, protecting your home and furniture, loading, driving, unloading, and reassembling the big pieces — plus packing and moving as one service if you want it, and storage when your possession dates don't match.
It also means structure behind the scenes: scheduled crews instead of day labour picked up that morning, an inventory taken before the quote, and a plan for your building's elevator or your street's parking. Those unglamorous details are exactly what you pay a company for.
Local company, not a broker
Some "moving companies" online are brokers — they take your booking and sell the job to whoever is available, and the crew that arrives has never heard of your quote. We don't broker anything. The company you talk to is the company that shows up, and the quote you're given is the quote we work to.
That accountability matters most when plans change. If a closing moves, a key handover runs late, or a snowstorm lands on your date, you call one Ottawa number and we re-plan with you. Our guide to avoiding moving scams in Ontario shows the warning signs of broker-style operations, so you can compare us against anyone.
